Summit Mentoring Zone - a hub for building connections

The Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit is not only the largest conference for women in Tech & IT in Europe. It is also a chance for young professionals and students just starting their careers in STEM to gain specialist knowledge and valuable contacts. Young girls in particular need support and female role models in a male-dominated industry. That is why the Mentoring Zone plays such an important role during the Summit. In this space, participants could meet the most inspiring, experienced, and empowering mentors, take advantage of over 590 individual 1:1 mentoring sessions, and talk about their lives, personal development, and professional challenges.

Mentoring sessions during the Summit were crucial for young women in STEM for several reasons. Young women attending the mentoring sessions found themselves inspired by the visibility of success around them. They could see successful female role models who had navigated similar challenges, making their own goals seem more achievable. Exposure to diverse experiences and career paths showcased the various possibilities within STEM fields, opening their eyes to a world of opportunities they might not have considered before.

These sessions were a hub for building connections. They provided a platform where young women could connect with professionals, peers, and potential employers. These interactions fostered relationships that could lead to future opportunities. By creating a support network of like-minded individuals, young women found it easier to navigate the often male-dominated STEM environment, knowing they were not alone in their journey.

Mentors play a crucial role in personal and professional development. They offered guidance on both technical skills and soft skills such as leadership, communication, and teamwork. Insights into career paths, industry trends, and necessary qualifications helped mentees make informed decisions about their futures. The sessions were not just about learning but also about growing as individuals and professionals.

The encouragement from mentors boosted confidence among the young women. Positive reinforcement helped them overcome imposter syndrome and other barriers that often stood in their way. Seeing successful women in STEM roles empowered them to pursue their ambitions with greater conviction. They learned that their dreams were within reach, and they could achieve them.

Mentors shared their real-world experiences, including the challenges they had faced and how they overcame them. This prepared mentees for similar situations in their careers. Learning from the experiences of others provided practical strategies for tackling personal and professional challenges, making them feel better equipped to handle whatever came their way. The stories shared by mentors were a source of inspiration and motivation. Hearing about their journeys and accomplishments encouraged young women to persist in their STEM pursuits. Mentors also helped mentees set realistic and ambitious goals, motivating them to strive towards them. These sessions ignited a spark within the mentees, driving them to aim higher and work harder.

Mentoring sessions addressed the unique challenges faced by women in STEM, fostering a more inclusive environment. They encouraged diversity and taught young women how to advocate for themselves and others. This promoted a culture of allyship and support, ensuring that no one felt isolated or unsupported in their journey.
