Just as we believe that women are destined to revolutionize new technologies, we believe that they can play a crucial role in mitigating the climate crisis. That is why a few years ago we decided to make the Perspektywy Women in Tech Summit, the very first climate-positive event in Poland.
This year we want to raise awareness about the importance of the sustainable management of water resources and - as part of the Summit offsetting - we are the first to actively engage in activities for the restitution of wetland areas!
Why is it so important? Wetlands are one of the few places that are a biodiverse habitat for plants and animals, as well as a huge water reservoir that is crucial in the fight against climate change, floods, and drought, as well as erosion and soil degradation.
Wetland restoration is about supporting the regeneration process of an ecosystem that has been disturbed or destroyed by humans. This is an action not only for the benefit of the planet but also for the good of all of us.
Therefore, we decided to join the project - implemented by The Polish Society for the Protection of Birds (OTOP) - of renaturalization of three degraded peat bogs in eastern Poland with a total area of approximately 260 ha (areas of Krychów - Krowie Bagno, Holeszów and Kamień) through their secondary irrigation. The main goal of the restoration was to improve habitat conditions for typical peat bog species (including the globally endangered Aquatic Warbler, Acrocephalus Paludicola L.). Additionally, a climate effect was achieved in the form of a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions estimated at 20,249.67 tCO2e.
We hope that the climate positivity initiated by our Summit will soon become a current trend in the event industry.
