Jan Świerkowski is a Polish art-and-science curator, astronomer, and cultural researcher, best known as the founder and curator of Instytut B61, an international collective he launched in 2009 to create immersive performances and exhibitions inspired by astronomy, physics, and other scientific ideas. He studied astronomy and astrophysics at Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and later completed a PhD in Culture Studies through Universidade Católica Portuguesa and the University of Copenhagen. Over the years, he has led large interdisciplinary projects that bring artists and scientists together, including Zderzenie, a cargo-train project inspired by the Large Hadron Collider, and Cosmic Underground, a European Commission-supported travelling art train that crossed Europe with site-specific performances.
