Assistant Professor

Warsaw University of Technology

Monika Janik is an assistant professor at the Institute of Microelectronics and Optoelectronics at Warsaw University of Technology, where she works on biosensor design, especially optical, fibre-optic, and multidomain sensing systems for biomedical applications. She trained in biotechnology at Wrocław University of Science and Technology and earned her PhD in photonics with distinction in 2019 from the Université du Québec en Outaouais in Canada. Her doctoral work focused on the rapid, real-time detection of pathogenic E. coli using a novel fiber-optic biosensor, and since joining Warsaw University of Technology in 2019, she has built a research profile at the intersection of photonics, biology, and sensor engineering.

Her research centres on adapting optical fibre technology to biosensing, including the chemical modification of sensor surfaces, laser-based microfabrication, and the design of experiments involving biological materials. She is currently leading the MI-CELL project, funded through Poland’s LIDER program. Alongside her research, she has been recognized with the START 2021 scholarship from the Foundation for Polish Science and the 2026 “Odważna w nauce” award.
