Verònica Ahufinger

Verònica Ahufinger is the Head of Academic Affairs at the Institute of Photonic Sciences (ICFO) since September 2025.  In 2002, after completing her PhD at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), she moved to the Leibniz Universität Hannover (Germany) as a Marie Curie Fellow. From 2005 to 2010, she was ICREA researcher at the UAB. She was appointed Associate Professor at the UAB in 2010 and Full Professor in 2023. Her research focuses on quantum transport of matter waves, light-matter interaction, and quantum simulation. In terms of academic management, she has served as Vice-Dean for Students at the Faculty of Sciences of the UAB, coordinator of the Physics degree as well as UAB coordinator of the Photonics Master’s programme. In addition, for two years, she worked as a scientific collaborator of the Spanish National Research Agency.
