The European Commission’s Quantum Europe Strategy makes an explicit shift: quantum technologies are no longer just an exciting research niche. They are a technological pillar Europe wants to lead in by the end of the decade. Why is the quantum sector so important, then? After all, none of us will have a quantum computer at home anytime soon.
This panel will serve as a reality check. Our goal is to answer one question: where will quantum technologies pay off first? The speakers will converge on three near-term value zones, and then name complications and blockers that keep us from making progress faster: error correction and control stacks, hardware scaling, talent, funding, and product proof.
We’ll also contextualise the role of Europe within quantum ecosystems with predictions of concrete “where we can win” lanes: HPC-quantum integration, software, photonics, systems engineering, and quantum-safe security adoption.
