Today, mental health and wellbeing face growing challenges-from limited access and a shortage of professionals to rising costs and persistent stigma. At the same time, skepticism toward new forms of psychological support continues to shape how these solutions are perceived and adopted.
Digital mental health offers a powerful way forward. It is increasingly used not only for prevention but also as part of evidence-based interventions. The real challenge, however, is not simply introducing technology, but ensuring it enables truly personalized care-tailored to individual needs, context, and targeting core psychological processes.
A key opportunity lies in the data we already generate every day through smartphones, smartwatches, and other wearable devices. These data provide continuous, real-world insights into how we think, feel, and behave, and can be leveraged to build personalized interventions and enhance the effectiveness of traditional therapy. The question is no longer whether technology can replace therapists. It’s how we can harness it to expand access at scale, increase precision, and ultimately redefine what effective, responsive mental health care can look like.
